At work, I have recently been given the task of maintaining the cosmetics department of the store. I believe that they have done this because 1. I am a lady, and 2. They must hate me to put me in charge of such a frustrating department. The only thing I have gained from this position so far is a vast knowledge of what is cheap, what is expensive (and where it all belongs) in a big box store. I am nowhere near an expert on makeup, but I’d like to think I know enough to discuss simple concepts. I also know what I like, and I know how to shop cheap.

Last week, when I showed up to work, there before me was a brand new display full of wonderful new (and cheap!) products. Among them was this lovely new Eyes Lips Face (e.l.f.) 100 color eyeshadow palette. And it was only $10. TEN. DOLLARS. My eyes were full of love, my wallet was singing, and brain said “HOLD UP.” Generally, it is a known fact that cheap makeup is not always going to be the best quality - but if it’s something that you’re getting just for kicks, I think cheap is the smartest route to take.

Well. Obviously I bought it. I had a rough day at work, and I had extra cash. Nothing could stop me from getting what I wanted. I also bought oreos. Upon occasion, I am the female stereotype.

When I popped it open, I was pleasantly surprised. It had all the colors I could possibly want, with a variety of shiny, sparkly and matte. Applying the pigment directly isn’t as strong as I would like, but I’ve since discovered that laying down a light white wet base (I’m using a white eyeliner) makes the shadow look lovely and bright. The more shimmery shadows don’t need a base, the show up nicely on their own (especially the golds!). The other thing that I love is the color mixing possibilities. I’m a sucker for crazy makeup, and now I can have rainbow eyes just like AFP if I want.

Anyway, I couldn’t resist sharing this sweet makeup find with all my lovelies out there. It’s ten bucks at Target, and it should be there through the back to school season. I’m sure I’ll be playing around with it more, and I’ll be sure to share what “looks” I can come up with.
